Statue of Ferdinando Bocconi
The statue of Ferdinando Bocconi was built by Luigi Secchi (1853-1921), a Milanese sculptor who created dozens of works in marble, bronze and plaster. He is well-known for his artistic works assigned to him on public commission, and the statue of Giuseppe Parini – created in collaboration with Luca Beltrami – is one of his best-known works, still standing today in Milan’s Piazzale Cordusio.
The statue of Ferdinando Bocconi, with a distinctly neoclassical feel, was commissioned in 1908 to commemorate the recently deceased entrepreneur.
Over the years, the statue has moved from its original position at the historic location in Largo Notari to the atrium of the University’s new location at Via Sarfatti 25. In 1966, it was moved to the garden patio of the new building at Via Gobbi 5, and in 2001 was later placed in the central space of the Velodromo – where we can still admire it today.
