Via Statuto

On 10 November 1902, the University inaugurated its first academic year in the building on Via Statuto, in the presence of government authorities, civic leaders, religious representatives and military officials.

On 31 December 1902, “Le cento Città d’Italia” (the 100 Cities of Italy), the illustrated monthly supplement of the Secolo daily, reported for the first time on the new building, the first location of Bocconi University:

“The University is located in a building erected for this purpose, in the square where Via Solferino, Via Statuto and Via Palermo converge. One enters the building from a sumptuous atrium in Ionic style, with an abundance of granite stone, then goes into a vestibule from which, through two symmetrically arranged hallways, one has access to the waiting rooms, the professors’ rooms, the secretary’s office, the Aula Magna and the other smaller classrooms.

From the same atrium, through a grand marble staircase, one can reach the upper floors, where, in addition to the various classrooms, there is also the Board Chamber, the Library, etc. To give an idea of the vastness of the building, it is enough to say that on each of the three floors there is over 110 square meters of space and that in the central part of the building there are three circular halls stacked one above the other, each with a surface area of 300 square meters.

The author of the building’s architectural design was engineer Giorgio Dugnani, municipal deputy.”
