The Gruppo Amici della Razionalizzazione
The important Gruppo Amici della Razionalizzazione or GAR was established in 1931 with L’Ufficio Moderno as its official body. After several initial informal meetings, a venue was chosen in the restaurant L’Orologio, located near the Duomo. Meetings, previously divided in two sections: “the publicists” and “the rationalists” are unified, taking place on a weekly basis, with experts called to discuss economic and social issues, which were regularly reported in L’Ufficio Moderno. Many young economists, such as Paolo Baffi, Fernando Di Fenizio, Libero Lenti and Roberto Tremelloni collaborated with GAR, which also became an opportunity for many anti-fascist figures to meet in Milan.
