The Years on the Board of Directors
Angelo Sraffa’s resignation from the position of Rector did not mark his departure. Taking advantage of the availability of a seat on the University Board, the University President, Ettore Bocconi, offered it to him. This allowed him to continue his reform work in a more secluded, but still influential, position.

In part thanks to Sraffa’s decisive role — as he actively participated in directing its organization — an institution dedicated to the development of high economic culture was established between 1926 and 1934. It was launched on the initiative of Donna Javotte Manca di Villahermosa, Ettore Bocconi’s widow, who died in 1932 (Corriere della Sera, 15 March 1933).
Sraffa remained on the Board until 1934 and died a few years later, in 1937. The particular historical moment, now on the brink of the enactment of the racial laws, did not allow Bocconi University to adequately commemorate him. The family understood the circumstances and, the year after his death, decided to donate the volumes of the vast law library that "were his working tools" to "his university".
